Which Football Clubs Will Be Most Effected By Uefa’s New Financial Fair Play Regulation?

By admin Posted in: Madrid

On May 27th, 2010, UEFA announced a new financial fair play regulation. http://www.uefa.com/uefa/aboutuefa/organ…
This new regulation has a break-even requirement – “clubs must not spend more than they generate over a period of time”.
In the transfer window prior to the 2010 season, the top spenders were clocked at: Real Madrid spent 260 million €, Manchester City spent 140 million €, Barcelona spent 100 million €, Inter Milan spent 91 million €, Bayern Munich spent 75 million €, Olympique Lyon spent 73 million €.
According to accounting firm Deloitte LLP, here is how much revenue the top football teams made for the 2009 season in US$.
1. Real Madrid …………………… $563
2. Barcelona ……………………… $513
3. Manchester United ………….. $459
4. Bayern Munich ……………….. $406
5. Arsenal …………………………. $369
6. Chelsea ………………………… $340
7. Liverpool ……………………….. $304
8. Juventus ……………………….. $285
9. AC Milan ………………………. $276
9. Inter Milan …………………….. $276
11. Hamburg ……………………… $206
12. AS Roma …………………….. $205
Which football clubs will have to cut back on transfer spending because of this new rule, if any?

  1. Jade Says

While I am not a football fan, I do know accounting & law. This new rule will effect almost all the big European clubs including the dozen clubs you have listed in your chart. It will also effect certain smaller clubs too which are trying their very best to keep up with the rich boys in leagues like the Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga & English Premier League. Arsenal is the only exception of the big clubs as they like to develop their young players thus they will be least expected.
Keep in mind that the revenue the clubs pull in cannot ALL be spent on transfer fees. Each club still has significant costs such as coaches, maintenance staff, police, security, gardeners, marketing, electricity, water, equipment fees, travel fees, hotel fees, legal fees, etc.
According to the BBC, transfer spending could be capped at just £38m after 2012.
Teams Most Effected: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventis
    Teams Least Effected: Arsenal

    Manchester City

  3. Ciaran Says

Liverpool will be badly effected by this, they are after losing out big time by not getting the Champions League. They didn’t have a huge amount of cash to throw around in the first place and now they won’t be making as much as they have in other years.

  4. Vio K Says

of course Real Madrid , Barcelona , Chelsea , Man.Utd and Man. City all these clubs have been spending lot of money

  5. Graham in U.K. Says

The Italians – because they ‘bend the rules’ !
If you check the stats you will see that Manchester United have NOT spent loads of money on players over the last few seasons.
UNITED are only in this position because of the way the Glaziers financed the acquisition of the club.
