the old romantic comedy where the american hero goes to rome/greece for vacation, and gets protective about a bunch of teen girls who fall in love with a group of american men that are in the same place for vacation. And the hero falls in love with this roman woman, whom he pursues after screwing up with her and realizes he is in love. I know I’m being extremely vague. It’s just that its been really long since I watched the film and now I’m trying so hard to recall its name. Any clue, any clue at all?

Come September (1961)
starring Rock Hudson, Gina Lollobrigida, Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin, Walter Slezak, Brenda De Banzie, Joel Grey, Joan Freeman
IMDb synopsis:
Wealthy industrialist Robert Talbot arrives early for his annual vacation at his luxurious Italian villa to find three problems lying in wait for him. Firstly, his long-time girlfriend Lisa Fellini has given up waiting for him to pop the question and has decided to marry another man. Secondly, the major domo of his villa, Maurice Clavell, has turned the estate into a posh hotel to make some easy money while the boss isn’t around. And, finally, the current guests of the “hotel” are a group of young American girls trying to fend off a gang of oversexed boys, led by Tony, who are ‘laying siege’ at the outer walls of the villa. Talbot, to his own surprise, finds himself becoming an overprotective chaperone.
TRIVIA:
Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin were married in 1960 and co-starred with each other in several films.
Darin wrote the catchy theme for this film, as well as writing and performing the song “Multiplication”.

This is one of my all-time favorite comedies! I have long ago passed the “century mark”, having seen this more than 100 times, including in the theater when I was about 10 years old.
