I have to do a report on what civilization influence the modern world ( I would not say greatest since every civilization was great in their own way.)
I really need honest opinions. and I hope there are no arguments (i just want to do my homework.)
To me rome influence us the most. But i need others opinions.

China. They are so advance in technology, but yet there country is a very “green” environmental friendly place.
This is one of those questions that really can’t be answered accurately. One thing is for sure though, and thats that history repeats itself. You mentioned Rome and I would have to agree with you. Rome was a great civilization that thrived but was undone and destroyed by corruption. Today we see America going though the same thing. The biggest thing that Rome taught us is that all great civilizations come to an end or regress.
The Greek and Roman civilization have influenced the modern world greatly. The Romans gave the idea of world domination, the greeks introduced politics and democracy.
This is sort of a personal opinion question, because there are good facts to support MANY cultures, or civilizations contributing much to the modern world.
But, let me suggest one that no one has mentioned.
I’d support the Mongols between 1200-1400 CE as contributing the most to civilization. I remember that a professor told me once they they invented the “stirrup” that enabled them to be superb horsemen, and that allowed them to use the “pony express” to speed communications in their Empire.
But, why were they greater than Egyptian or Greeks? Or even China? Because the were a conduit between the East and the West. They increased world trade and communication, especially between Europe and China. Because the Mongols controlled the overland trade routes, the struggling Europeans, especially Spain and Portugal, developed sea routes around Africa to get to China.
This would lead to the era of exploration, and discovery the New World, much faster than if the Mongol Empire had never came into existence.
The Mongols forced other Middle East tribes to move west, and when they threatened to invade Europe, the Europeans would become stronger, developing stronger armies.
The Crusades, in fact resulted when Mongol driven forces took over the holy land and trade in Jerusalem, forcing the Pope to raise armies to invade that area, to re-establish some control and access there.
Without the Mongols, and pressure or control by them of the Middle East, there may have been no Crusades, which helped bring back more ideas and trade to Europeans. Especially, after the fall of Constantinople about 1453 CE.
So, my vote is that the Mongols were most influential. They greatly changes the Empires of both India and China too.
Least we forget, Mongol domination of Russia also changed them greatly, and perhaps lead to their later, faster moderization, (under Peter the Great) and desire to be so militarily strong, that they would never be defeated by a foreign power again.
Without doubt Ancient Greece and later on Rome ,which was almost a copy of Greek Civilization.
Greece gave us Democracy,Philosophy,Drama,a new vision of Art,logical thinking and through them we benefited from the earlier inventions and knowledge of Mesopotamia and Egypt .
Rome spread the culture they had inherited from the Greeks and build further on it,however it was the Greek genius that gave sparked on what we call today Western Civilization.
