Planning on starting in New York and onto Washington and then down to Florida, Is there anywhere inbetween DC/FL to visit? I wanna finish my trip in San Francisco, I would like to visit Cali, LV, LA too anyone recommend any where else along this route?

Wow – how much time do you have?? Unless you’re flying between some of those locations [especially from the East Coast to the West Coast] you’re going to need three to four weeks to cover all that distance.
There’s not a lot to see of interest between DC and Florida, although a drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive in Virginia would be very pretty. And there’s history along the way, but that may not interest a non-US visitor.
On your list, I’d skip Vegas and LA – they’re highly over-rated as tourist destinations, IMHO. San Francisco is interesting and pretty. If you can go down the Pacific Coast Highway [actually going UP is better - you don't feel as vulnerable to falling over the cliffs!] from SF to Big Sur is absolutely gorgeous. From SF you could go up to Napa wine country, going through Muir Woods and redwood country.
I think a trip from NYC [or DC] on the “northern” route would be much more interesting than going across from Florida to LA. Pennsylvania and New York are both pretty states. Cleveland has the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Chicago is a neat city with lots to do. Further west there is Glacier National Park or Yosemite National Park [although there's not a lot between Chicago and either of those]. You could continue on to Seattle or Portland and then down to San Francisco, either along the coast or at some point going through the Cascades in WA/OR.
You really need to get a guidebook to the US [printed or on line], such as Fodor’s or Frommer’s. And, use one of the map sites to find out how far [distance and time-wise] it is between some of the places you’re considering visiting. [Yahoo maps, Mapquest, Google maps]. The US is a vast country. I’ve encountered many Europeans who just didn’t realize just how vast until they got here. Some Germans we met talked of making a “day trip” from NYC to Niagara Falls, not realizing until we told them that it would be a six or seven-hour drive one way to do that.
There are many places of interest along those routes. What are your interests?
How much time do you have? Do you just want to primarily see the named Cities & states.
The Carolinas have great tourist attractions as do many states.
Texas has a great gulf coast too.
Look at a map & decide if you want to stop to see the worlds biggest ball of twine or just keep moving until you find something of interest.
Time may be a factor as going from coast to coast takes a lot of time in traveling alone.
I have driven across the USA a few times. The places I found most interesting are: Colorado (I went to Boulder, just outside of Denver), North Carolina was fun, and Tennessee is beautiful. More importantly, the places to avoid: New Jersey – once you go in, you have the worst time getting out! Kentucky – there is nothing but flat lands and no scenery. Virginia and Maryland were pretty boring, but Atlanta, Georgia, and Louisianaa were all fun. It all depends on the time of year you are traveling, and of course the people you meet. But I have learned, go without a set plan and be prepared to change direction often and you’ll have a great time! Good Luck!
It all depends upon a number of basic factors: 1. How much time you have (two weeks/two months). 2, What your budget allows. 3. The season you plan your trip (spring, summer, fall, winter) 4. The mode of transportation you prefer ( air, rental car, bus, train -limited train service in the USA) 5. Your primary interests ( beaches, museums, nature, nightclubs etc.).
Here are some options: NY – Washington by car 5-6 hours; other options; air transport, train (excellent service), bus (economical). NY – Miami: about 1400 miles; areas of interest are Philadelphia (history, museums), Washington DC ( variety of interesting sights), Richmond, VA area (civil war history); North and South Carolina as well as Georgia and Florida beaches; Orlando (Disney etc.)
