Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel is very good, and is new (only 3 years old). It is on Leith Walk, about 10 minutes walk from Waverley Station (or get a 22 bus if you have heavy bags). It has a kitchen to cook for yourself and has a restaurant. There are both single/twin rooms (from £34) and dormitories (from £16). If you are planning to visit Edinburgh in the summer, it is essential that you book early.
